The first painting of the year has been completed. I used my student son Rick as my study for this one. I am excited that I have begun the year with such vibrant colour!

Every time I get my watercolours out I remember just how much I love painting with them! This little piece on paper was intended as a sketch for a larger oil painting. But I think it is a little finished piece in its own right, so I’ll be framing it ready for the gallery in the coming days.

I had the idea for this painting some time ago. It was only when I created a warm pink backdrop that I felt it worked. The yellow lamp light adds a nice point of interest.
